Flights & Transport

Flights

Flights to Pisa from Aldergrove International Airport are weekly on a Saturday.Based on flying out Sat 31st May and returning on the Sat 7th June flights with Jet2 will cost around £380 for 2 people with two bags to check in.

Alternative flights may be arranged from Dublin Airport or Heathrow for example flying direct to Florence instead.

UPDATE: more frequent flights have been found running from Belfast international to Amsterdam and then to Florence city itself. This would avoid staying for a full week and avoids train transfers from Pisa to Florence.

Transport by train

We would recommend that you hire a car which will allow access to the Tuscany Hills with ease and you can visit many of the medieval villages in the surroundings this way.

If you are not hiring a car we would recommend getting the train from Pisa Airport to Florence to make pick up of guests much easier. Upon arriving at the airport head to the exit at the far left of the building (arrivals end) You can buy your ticket at the information office in the arrivals hall or alternatively on the platform at one of the ticket machines. The railway terminal is just outside the Check in / arrivals hall. Trains run to Pisa Centrale at least every 20mins and are clearly labelled on the platform on an overhead screen. Tickets cost around 1 Euro 20.

At Pisa Centrale follow the signs to the exit (Italian = Uscita) You will arrive at a train platform and descend steps to a long tunnel to make your way to the front entrance of the station. Once you reach the end of the tunnel you will go up some steps and arrive in the Entrance Hall / Exit of the station. You will see a large board on the wall opposite the exit doors which tells you what platform to get your train to Florence (Italian = Firenze). The train station in Florence / Firenze is called Santa Maria Novella (SMN). Don't forget to buy another ticket!
Make your way back down into the tunnel and head for the correct number platform. The journey to Florence takes around 45mins on the train and costs around 6 Euros.
When you arrive at Florence SMN station head to the exit and there is a McDonalds Cafe on the opposite side of the street (not the one in the station) We can meet anyone who needs picked up there. If you need groceries and don't have a car there is a shop directly round the corner from McDonalds. If you need a map of the location let us know.

Staying in Florence.

If your are staying in Florence prior to the wedding and need to be picked up for the wedding day make sure you let either Ryan or myself know or Marlene McIlrath or Noreen Graham. A taxi bus, seating 8, sent from the castle to collect you will cost 60 Euros altogether. If larger parties of people need to be picked up we may hire a minibus and will inform you of any further costs. We would ask that you all make it to the pick up point at McDonalds cafe opposite Santa Maria Novella station for the designated time. (TBA)
